If you have ever been through a season of suffering or struggles, then I’m sure you have encountered a well-meaning person who has said, “Don’t worry. God won’t give you more than you can handle.”
There are many ideas about suffering, but it comes down to the fact that we live in a fallen world where sin exists. And sometimes it can feel overwhelming. And sometimes, we believe we can’t handle it.
But God…
This is one of my favorite phrases in all of existence. Why? Because for every difficulty, complaint, excuse, trial, endeavor, indignity, affront, deficiency, shortcoming, or outrage…He is there. He is there for us to lean on, to cling to, to cast our anxieties upon, to fully surrender everything to.
Yeah, we often face things that are more than we can handle. But, so what? Our God is bigger than that.
Paul said it best when he said: For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:10)
